SHEEP ON THE ROW
The Campaign for Wool is a global endeavour initiated by its patron, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, in order to raise awareness amongst consumers about the unique, natural and renewable benefits offered by wool. Encouraging collaboration between an international community of woolgrowers, major fashion designers, retailers, tailors, manufacturers, artisans and interior designers, the Campaign has been instrumental in educating consumers about the versatility of wool, and reconnecting them with its myriad of uses – From luxurious fine merino knitwear, soft next to the skin to fire-retardant insulation for the home, offering a safe environment.
Since its launch in 2010, The Campaign for Wool has influenced a new demand for wool on an international scale. Every year, The Campaign for Wool stages Wool Week, a week-long festival of events and workshops celebrating wool in all its guises.
The Campaign officially began in October 2010 with a launch event that saw London’s historic tailoring street Savile Row transformed into a pasture upon which fifty sheep grazed. As a partner of the first event, we are very pleased to announce that we are again working with The Campaign for Wool and with The Woolmark Company and that Wool Week will again be launched on Savile Row on Monday 5th October.
‘Sheep on the Row’ will see the world’s most prestigious tailoring location closed to traffic for the day as Exmoor Horn and Bowmont Merino sheep graze on specially laid turf. The Row’s sheep field will draw attention to the outdated belief that wool is coarse and uncomfortable to wear. Visitors will be able to learn about how wool is transformed by the world’s greatest spinners, weavers and finishers to produce luxurious cloth that inspires the world-class bespoke tailors of Savile Row, West End and the City tailors of London. Events will be scheduled throughout the day and we hope that our customers will be able to join us on the field.
